Spiderman can rest easy for the moment. He does not have superhero wall climbing competition from this curly haired brown girl. Today’s episode involves outdoor rock climbing. My friend Mimi and I had an intro to (outdoor) rock climbing class at Camelback Mountain with Front Range Climbing Company. We arrived just a few minutes late to meet our lovely guides, Bill and Tim. Throughout the 4 hours of class they did a fantastic job of keeping the mood fun and supportive while tolerating my personal brand of crazy.
And for those you who are keeping track – please add yet another notch to the “things I suck at” side. Along with cupcakes and fly fishing, I am not good at this. I’ve been climbing a handful of times at indoor rock gyms but after I thought about it, I haven’t actually been to a rock gym in several years. Several. Like, more than 5 years. This became amazingly apparent on the rock. On the other hand, Mimi’s been climbing about 45 times in the last month, so she basically scrambled up the rock in about .78 seconds. Yeah, thanks for that, Mimi. Awesome.
What’s that you say? You want to see how awful I am? Great! Watch this:

I’ve said it before and I do mean it – Embrace the suck. Like sewing, I am not naturally gifted at outdoor rock climbing, like say Tori Allen

but I can manage to persevere through it and embrace the suck. I may even attempt to do it again just to make sure I actually suck. However, there’s no need to reattempt sewing, I’ve already thoroughly established my shortcomings there.

Silly Jill, there was no way that was .78 seconds…it was AT LEAST .92 seconds. Hehe. And now you’ve given me someone to strive to be like – Tori Allen, it’s on. Fun times!! Spiderman may be a nickname in due time =p
Oh Mimi, you’re a good time. Thanks for being the videographer! I’ll have to start practicing on the sly so I can keep up next time.
